Monmouth sits where the Monnow meets the Wye, which gives the town its character and also gives it a genuine technical consideration that most places do not have. Properties on the low ground near either river carry flood risk, and that matters directly to a solar and battery installation.
Panels are on the roof and out of it, but the inverter and the battery are not. Both are commonly put in a garage, an outbuilding or a ground floor utility, and on a property that has taken water before that is the wrong place for them. We work out where that kit is going on the survey, at a sensible height and somewhere it will stay dry, rather than defaulting to the usual spot and hoping. It is a small decision that is expensive to get wrong.
The town centre is historic and largely covered by a conservation area, with the bridge and the older streets around it, so permitted development cannot be taken as read on the older properties. Planning runs to Welsh rules here. South and east of the town the Wye valley is a protected landscape, which adds its own constraints on properties inside it, and away from all of that there is ordinary modern housing and farmland where the work is straightforward.
